About our school

We are a private school (friskola) for students in grades 6-9 located just outside central Skellefteå. We have around 90 students in the school, which brings several advantages, one of which is that we have a completely different proximity. We get to know our students, they get to know us and together we build a safe environment.

Björkskolan's goal is to be characterized by the fact that each student is seen for who they are. That the student develops socially and knowledge-wise through individual learning in a positive atmosphere of care and calm. The pupils' development of good social abilities and knowledge should be recognized and witnessed. The school must have professional management and a financial capacity that creates space for creative and long-term acting.

Our school follows the same curriculum as other primary schools in Sweden while the operation is resting on a foundation of values, built on the basis of three areas we prioritize:

A school where children can grow in knowledge, creativity and responsibility

Solidarity

It is important to learn to put yourself in other people's situations, both in the classroom and outside of it. Relationships are made through field trips, study visits, study trips and joint projects. The activities are clearly integrated into the teaching. Through various projects, the school will support people in other countries who live in difficult conditions.

We believe this is an excellent combination for creating creative ways of working and giving students a positive self-image. Each student must "find their unique identity and participate in community life by giving their best in responsible freedom" (Lgr 11).

Creativity

The ability to communicate increasingly marks workplaces as well as society in general. Therefore, we have chosen to integrate different aspects of this skill into our teaching. Partly with the help of technology such as the use of computers, movies, radio, TV, etc. Partly by encouraging each student's own way of expression and creative ability to reach the recipient through speech, drama, art, writing etc.

Responsibility

We believe that the school should be built on an operation where each student learns to take responsibility for their learning, but also for the practical aspects of their everyday life. We have rules that the staff, students and parents sign an agreement to follow. For our vision to become a reality, we depend on an intimate collaboration between parents and school. The school must be a learning environment, which also includes learning to take the consequences of one's own actions.
